5 Tips to Optimise Your Etsy Shop for More Traffic (and Sales)

Here are 5 tips to help you drive traffic to your Etsy Shop.

1. Use all 13 tags - Etsy allows you to add up to 13 tags to each listing. Make sure you fill them all out with relevant, long-tail keywords to help your products get found in search. No keyword stuffing - only use highly relevant terms for your niche. Make good use of the Etsy search bar as you add tags - it will show you relevant keyword suggestions in the drop-down menu. You can also use tools like Marmalead or Everbee.

2. Add alt text - Use the alt text field to add a description with keywords when uploading product photos. This helps images show up in Google searches and can lead potential customers to your listing on Etsy. Importantly, alt text is also used to assist visually impaired people, so keep that in mind when adding keywords and a description. We like to manage people's expectations of what the product is about, not confuse them with a barrage of keywords 😉

3. Add video - Only a small percentage of Etsy sellers use video, so adding a video can really help your listing stand out. You don't need fancy equipment, just use your phone camera and an app like Canva to make simple videos. Canva used Canva Magic recently. A brilliant set of tools that makes creating content easy.

4. Use the packing slip with QR code - Drive new buyers and stimulate repeat sales by making good use of the QR code on your Etsy packing slips that links back to your shop (new feature!). And why not add a coupon code while you're at it? Mobile shoppers can easily scan and re-engage with your shop.

5. Optimise titles - Put the most important, relevant keyword for your product first in the title, especially crucial for mobile shoppers who may only see the first 2-3 words.

Consider PPC advertising - In addition to organic optimisation, you may want to consider investing in pay-per-click (PPC) ads on Etsy. While this does cost money, it can help get your products in front of targeted buyers right when they are searching for something similar to what you sell. Start small and test different keywords to see which ones convert best.

By spending time optimising your Etsy listings with these tips, you can improve your chances of being found by buyers and ultimately drive more sales to your shop. The key is staying on top of your SEO and standing out in this competitive marketplace.
